"Keep the Dream Alive"
ad campaign continues
Our "Keep the Dream Alive" ad campaign continues to urge Montanans to contact their legislators in support of higher education with television and radio ads airing across the state. The current ad features footage from the March 3 Rally for Public Education.
The seed money and inspiration for this campaign came from MEA-MFT's local unit at the University of Montana, the University Faculty Association (UFA). The goal: encourage the legislature to provide adequate funding for higher education.
UFA began the campaign January 15 with the first "Keep the Dream Alive ad," radio, TV, and newspaper ads in Missoula and Helena, plus cable TV ads in 26 markets statewide.
With help from MEA-MFT, the campaign was expanded into all major media markets. (Helena, Missoula, Butte, Bozeman, Billings, Great Falls, and with the latest ad, Kalispell)
Ad #1: Radio, TV, newspaper. See newspaper script below. The UFA gained significant media coverage with the launching of this ad.
Ad #2: Radio only. Featuring Montana's senior statesman, 97-year-old Mike Mansfield (script follows). We gained even more media coverage with this ad.
Ad #3: Newspaper only. Featuring Mark Semmens, director of investment banking for D.A. Davidson Co. and member of Board of Regents
Ad #4: TV only. Featuring Matt Swenson, a UM graduate who owns his own Montana-based computer business with a million-dollar payroll - thanks to his Montana college education (script follows).
Ad #5: TV and radio. Featuring voices from MEA-MFT's March 3 rally. This ad talks about K-12 as well as higher education. Also, because of the shell game legislators are playing in their attempt to pit state employees against public education, we wove "public services" into the message as well: "Call your legislators. Tell them our children's future depends on strong public schools, public colleges, and public services. Keep the Dream Alive."
