Oh, the places we went!
March 2 was a busy day for the Cat in the Hat in Montana's capital city.
In fact, it took three Cats in the Hat riding on five different fire trucks to visit all 15 elementary schools in the area.
Chauffeured by firefighters from the Helena City Fire Department and West Valley, East Valley, Eastgate, and East Helena volunteer fire departments, the Cat in the Hat celebrated Read Across America with over 4,000 elementary students.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Linda McCulloch and Deputy Superintendent Bill Cooper joined the Cat at several schools to lead students in the Read Across America Oath of Reading.
The event was organized by MEA-MFT staff with help from Helena Education Association President Dallas Miller, who also turned in a stellar performance as one of the Cats in the Hat. All this merriment had a serious purpose: to promote reading in Montana as part of NEA's 4th annual Read Across America.
