Teaching isn't just a job. It's a way of life.
That's why future teachers need Student MEA-MFT.
Start your career right:
You have chosen an exciting profession, one that demands the best you have to give! Student MEA-MFT can help you make the grade and get more value from your teacher preparation program.
Whether you're just starting college, completing your student teaching, or returning to begin a second career, Student MEA-MFT membership can make a big difference in your career.
Who we are
Student MEA-MFT is Montana's professional association for college students who plan to become teachers. We have about 400 members around the state.
Student MEA-MFT is part of MEA-MFT (formerly the Montana Education Association and Montana Federation of Teachers). In addition to student members, MEA-MFT represents teachers, college professors, and other education employees throughout Montana. We are a nonprofit, grassroots organization.

What Student MEA-MFT offers you as a member:
Networking: Student MEA-MFT helps you tap into a first-class professional network of people and programs in education today. This network is composed of practicing teachers, college professors, and other education employees at the local, state, and national levels.
Million-dollar protection! Many schools require you to be covered by liability insurance when you student teach. Liability is a serious issue for all teachers - including student teachers. As a member of Student MEA-MFT, you'll be covered by our million-dollar liability insurance policy every time you step into a classroom on assignment during your training. That includes student teaching and anything else assigned by your teacher preparation program. It also includes substitute teaching after you graduate, as long as you are still a member of MEA-MFT.
Helping you teach your best: Successful teaching requires many specialized skills: planning, classroom management, diagnosis, and counseling, to name just a few. Your college courses can teach you some of these things, but even your professors can't stay on top of all the latest issues in teaching.
Student MEA-MFT helps you become a well-informed professional teacher through top-quality workshops; conferences; publications; web sites; and the National Education Association's Professional Library - offering the single largest source of professional materials for classroom teachers.
Get your money's worth The professional benefits of joining Student MEA-MFT can't be matched. The practical benefits can quickly repay your dues investment. Some of these practical benefits include:
- Whopping discounts on professional publications and over 400 magazines.
- Discounted car insurance, homeowners insurance, and life insurance.
- Home Financing Program to help you purchase a new home.
- Special credit cards for members only, with no annual fee and a low percentage rate.

Student MEA-MFT members receive all of these benefits for just $17 a year. That's less than you'd spend for a textbook. (Some local student chapters add a few dollars for local dues.) To learn more about these special member benefits, click here. (LINK)
